Crafted with Excellence

At an elevation of 1800 feet, JBR Vineyards is a boutique Virginia Farm Winery that passionately produces two grape varieties rarely grown in Virginia – Riesling and Pinot Noir.  The grapes are estate-grown, and all wines are produced and bottled on the premises in Giles County. Debby and Jessee Ring own the vineyard and winery.

Tastings are relaxed and personalized according to the customers’ wishes. All questions are gladly answered. Kids and dogs are welcome.

Our Wine

If you’re going to do something, you may as well do it well.

JBR Vineyards & Winery specializes in two grape varieties, Riesling and Pinot Noir, which are unusual in Virginia. They make the Riesling wine in the traditional German style with a bit of residual sugar balanced by the naturally high acidity of the Riesling grape. The Pinot Noir wine is a dry, robust red wine.

Robust Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir takes on a distinctive character based on the local terroir.  In the Southwest Virginia mountains, it produces a robust wine with deep ruby color and hints of cherry flavors.

German-Style Riesling

Made in the traditional German style with some residual sugar that is balanced by the natural high acidity of the Riesling grape. Rarely grown in Virginia, this wine is in a class of its own.

Our Story

After thirty years of living in Pennsylvania and California, Jessee in the high-tech industry, and Debby in the military, the couple returned to Jessee’s roots in Southwest Virginia.  Jessee had studied wines for many years, buying and tasting products purchased at auctions, reading many books on wines of the world, attending multiple tastings, and talking to the owners of wine shops, vineyards, etc.

After returning to Virginia, Jessee thought it would be fun to plant a few vines.  In 2006, he planted a trial of several varieties.  In 2010, he selected two varieties, Riesling and Pinot Noir, and the rest is history.  Our Virginia Farm Winery license was obtained in 2014.

Wine-making started in the basement with rudimentary equipment.  Our first Pinot Noir harvest was crushed with a kitchen potato masher and colander!  After that, we invested in some equipment and have added more continually. JBR evolved to plant a total of 4 acres of vines.  A state-of-the-art winery was built in 2017. Jessee obtained his certification as a wine-maker from the internationally renowned University of California, Davis. JBR foregoes trends, fads, and distractions in favor of producing the best wine.
